If you’ve ever opened your oven and been greeted by a cloud of burnt-on grease and mystery stains, you’re not alone. But before you reach for a store-bought cleaner that smells like a science experiment gone wrong, there’s a better (and safer) way. This DIY oven cleaner paste is made with simple ingredients that cut through the gunk—without the chemicals.
Traditional oven cleaners are loaded with harsh fumes and corrosive chemicals that can irritate your skin, lungs, and even contaminate food. A natural paste made from baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils works just as well—while being safe, budget-friendly, and earth-conscious.
1 cup baking soda
2 tablespoons castile soap
1/4 cup white vinegar
10 drops Lemon essential oil
5 drops doTERRA On Guard or Abode
Optional: 2 drops clove or oregano for extra grease-fighting and purification
In a small bowl, combine the baking soda and castile soap.
Slowly add the vinegar (it will fizz a bit—totally normal).
Stir until it forms a thick, spreadable paste. Adjust consistency as needed.
Add essential oils and stir well.
Spread the paste over the interior surfaces of your (cool!) oven, avoiding heating elements.
Let it sit for at least 6 hours, or overnight for tougher buildup.
Wipe away with a damp sponge or cloth. Rinse and repeat in trouble spots.
Baking Soda: Gritty enough to scrub, alkaline enough to cut grease.
Castile Soap: Natural degreaser that lifts dirt and residue.
Vinegar: Helps soften baked-on food and reacts with baking soda for added cleaning power.
Lemon Essential Oil: Known for its grease-cutting and deodorizing abilities.
On Guard or Abode: Powerful essential oil blends with natural antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Clove or Oregano: Natural purifiers that fight mold, mildew, and lingering smells.
🛑 Safety Tip: Always make sure your oven is off and cool before applying any cleaner.
That glass window collects just as much grime. Use a bit of the paste and a soft cloth or scraper to gently remove buildup. For extra shine, follow up with a spritz of vinegar and a microfiber cloth.
You don’t need to wait for spring to give your oven a refresh. A natural oven cleaning paste is perfect for a quarterly deep clean—or right before the holidays when your oven works overtime.
Your kitchen will smell fresh, your oven will look brand new, and your meals will be cooked in a toxin-free space you can feel good about.
